SALMONELLA
Infection with the bacteria Salmonella is called salmonellosis. Signs of human infection can include diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
High risk individuals who should limit contact with poultry:

Children, especially under 5 years old

Ideally children under 5 should not handle birds or equipment used to care for birds​

Adults 65 and older

Immunocompromised individuals
Prevention:

Wash hands! ​

Wash after any interaction with birds, where they live, or after gathering eggs

Try to not touch face or mouth when working with birds until hands are washed

Use designated shoes and tools in areas where birds are kept, thoroughly clean them and keep them outside

Do NOT:

Bring birds inside the home, especially near areas with food

Eat or drink near where birds are kept

Snuggle or kiss birds
